# Viewing modes (v100.39+)

The **Analysis tools tab** offers two viewing modes for reviewing variants: **New mode** and **Legacy mode**.

* **New mode** adds an IGV-based **Variant visualization tool** above the variant table so you can inspect a variant in its genomic context without leaving the tab. **New mode** also has advanced **Columns manager**.
* **Legacy mode** shows the variant table only.

To switch modes, use the viewing-mode toggle in the upper-right corner. Your filter and preset activity is preserved automatically when you switch between modes.

## New mode (v100.39+)

**New mode** combines the variant table with an IGV-based [**Variant visualization tool**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/variant-visualization/variant-visualization-tool.md) in a single view. The same viewer is available in the [**Visualization tab**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/variant_page/visualization_section.md) of the **Variant page**.

**New mode** is the default **Analysis tools viewing mode** on v100.41 and later.

**Note:** Visualization in the **Analysis tools tab** is only available for RUO[^1] cases.

### Visualization window

* Resize the window by dragging its upper border.
* Select **Show visualization** (<img src="https://1131024994-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGCW0DnLlE7QjoZPNmKIi%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-c2725e643d2cacc0920a094b76230e88c16960a1%2Fimage%20(5).png?alt=media" alt="" data-size="line">) or **Hide visualization** (<img src="https://1131024994-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGCW0DnLlE7QjoZPNmKIi%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b54df0f3b6f0ffe36b41caf79ff43277ead27e3b%2Fimage%20(4).png?alt=media" alt="" data-size="line">) above the variant table to turn the visualization on or off.

### Table and visualization interaction

* Single-click a variant row to zoom the visualization to that region.
* With a variant open in the visualization window, use the up and down arrow keys to move through the variant table.
* Double-click a variant row, or select the **Open** link, to open the **Variant page**.

## Legacy mode

**Legacy mode** shows the variant table without the IGV-based **Variant visualization tool**.

**Legacy mode** is the default **Analysis tools viewing mode** on v100.40 and earlier.

From v100.41, when the **Analysis Tools tab** is in **Legacy** **mode**, the tab is labeled Legacy.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.bioinsight.illumina.com/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/reviewing_a_case/analysis-tools-tab-beta-v100.39.0+/viewing-modes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
