# QuickView

**QuickView** is the starting point for exploring any gene, SNP, concept, biogroup, bioset, or sequence region in Correlation Engine. It provides a rapid, top-level summary of everything CE knows about your query term across all apps and data sources.

## What Can You Query?

QuickView accepts all CE query types:

* Genes and SNPs
* Phenotypes, tissues, and compounds (concepts)
* Biogroups (Gene Ontology, MSigDB pathways, InterPro families)
* Biosets (using the mini-QuickView icon)
* Sequence regions

## How to Query QuickView

1. Go to the top of any CE page.
2. Enter your term in the query field.
3. Click the **QuickView icon** ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0a2038f7d8421f594197b4726f532faff61affd8%2Fimage.png?alt=media) in the app menu.

To query QuickView with a bioset, click the **mini-QuickView icon** ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0a2038f7d8421f594197b4726f532faff61affd8%2Fimage.png?alt=media) next to the bioset name anywhere in CE.

## Understanding QuickView Results

QuickView results are organized into two tabs:

### Correlation Engine Summary Tab

This tab shows CE-specific information that is only available through Correlation Engine:

| Section                | What It Shows                           |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------- |
| Top data correlations | Top 5 results from each relevant CE app |
| Top correlated studies | Top 5 hits from Curated Studies |
| Top literature | Top 5 PubMed hits from Literature |
| Top clinical trials | Top 5 matches from Clinical Trials |

Click any result name to open it in the full app results page. Click an app name, app icon, or the **Explore Results** link to see the complete result set for that app.

### General Info Tab

This tab displays general biomedical knowledge for your query term, compiled from:

* [PubMed](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) — publication abstracts
* [Gene Ontology](http://www.geneontology.org/) — GO annotations
* [dbSNP](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/SNP/) — SNP information
* [PubChem](https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) — compound data
* [MSigDB](https://software.broadinstitute.org/gsea/msigdb) — pathway membership
* Other public data sources

For a gene query, the General Info tab includes:

* Alternate gene names and identifiers
* Links to gene orthologs
* Transcription factor and miRNA binding sites
* Gene Ontology membership (biological processes, cellular components, molecular functions)
* Pathway and protein family membership

## Scatter Plots for Bioset Queries

When querying QuickView with a bioset, a **scatter plot** is available. This plots the statistical columns from the bioset — a typical use is to plot fold change on the x-axis against -log(p-value) on the y-axis (Volcano plot). The first two recognised statistical columns are assigned to the axes by default. Use the dropdown menus to select different columns and click **Generate Plot** to update the image.

{% hint style="info" %}
System-recognised p-values and q-values are automatically log-transformed and offered as axis options in the dropdowns.
{% endhint %}

## Exporting QuickView Results

Use the **Export Results** button (available to Professional and Enterprise subscribers) to download all results from the current QuickView page as a file.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.bioinsight.illumina.com/correlation-engine/querying-and-interpreting-results/quickview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
