# Curated Studies

**Curated Studies** is the primary browsing and search app for all studies — public and private — that are available in Correlation Engine. Unlike the atlas apps that categorize results, Curated Studies returns flat, ranked lists of individual studies.

## What Can You Query?

| Query Type | What You Get |
| ----------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Gene, SNP, region, biogroup, bioset** | Ranked list of studies in which the query term was significantly correlated |
| **Concept (phenotype, tissue, compound)** | List of studies tagged with or mentioning the concept |
| **Free text / keyword** | Text-search results across study names and descriptions |
| **No query (Browse All)** | Full list of all available studies for filtering and browsing |

## How to Query Curated Studies

**With a gene, concept, or keyword:**

1. Enter your term in the query field at the top of any CE page.
2. Click the **Curated Studies icon** ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e2ac8bab87e60ffe145a4d32146916b2fb8f69a4%2Fimage%20\(5\).png?alt=media) in the app menu.

**With a bioset:**

1. Find a bioset of interest (in My Studies, from expanded results, or in Curated Studies itself).
2. Click the **mini-QuickView icon** ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0a2038f7d8421f594197b4726f532faff61affd8%2Fimage.png?alt=media) next to the bioset name.
3. Click the **Curated Studies icon** ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e2ac8bab87e60ffe145a4d32146916b2fb8f69a4%2Fimage%20\(5\).png?alt=media) in the app menu.

**To browse all studies:**

1. Click the Curated Studies icon ![](https://1165879419-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWolK2fDgPCCcGurM8A73%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e2ac8bab87e60ffe145a4d32146916b2fb8f69a4%2Fimage%20\(5\).png?alt=media) without entering a query term.
2. Click the **All Curated Studies** button on the app homepage.

## Understanding Results

Curated Studies results are a flat list — unlike Disease Atlas (which groups by disease) or Genetic Markers (which groups by gene), Curated Studies does not categorize. Every study correlated with or tagged for your query is shown individually.

Results columns include:

* **Study name** — click to expand the study and see its biosets
* **Organism** and **Data type** icons
* **Supporting data types** abbreviations (hover for full name)
* **Score** — normalised correlation score (100 = top result)

### Expanding a Study

Click a study name to reveal the biosets within it that are correlated with your query. Click a bioset name to see the individual gene-level statistics (fold change, p-value, copy number change, etc.). The column types displayed depend on the data type.

## Filtering Results

From the All Curated Studies view, use the filter bar to narrow results by:

* **Keyword** — full-text search
* **Organism** — e.g., Human, Mouse
* **Data type** — e.g., RNA Expression, DNA Methylation
* **Experiment design** — e.g., Treatment vs. control, Mutant vs. wildtype

Click **Apply Filter** to update results. Click **Clear all filters** to reset.

## Use Cases

* **Inspect public data directly** — find all studies of a specific experimental design, data type, or species.
* **Find negative results** — because CE returns all correlated studies (not just curated top results), you can discover studies in which a gene of interest was **not** significant.
* **Browse without a query** — explore the full corpus of CE public and private content using the filter tools.

## Exporting

Click the **Export Results** button to download a CSV of all studies currently shown in your results.

To export the statistics for a specific bioset, expand the study, click the bioset name to open it, then use the export options within the bioset inspector.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.bioinsight.illumina.com/correlation-engine/querying-and-interpreting-results/curated-studies.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
