# Getting Started with ICM

Correlation Engine is accessed through the **Illumina Connected Multiomics (ICM)** platform. Before you can use Correlation Engine, you need an active ICM account with a Professional or Enterprise subscription, a configured domain, and a workgroup.

This page summarises the access prerequisites and links to the full ICM Getting Started guide for step-by-step instructions.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you already have an active ICM Professional account and can log in at [login.illumina.com](https://login.illumina.com/login), you can skip directly to [Data Inputs](/correlation-engine/data-inputs/data-inputs.md).
{% endhint %}

## Prerequisites

| Requirement          | Details                                                                        |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **ICM subscription** | Connected Multiomics Professional or Enterprise |
| **Domain** | An Illumina Connected Software domain registered to your organisation |
| **Workgroup** | A workgroup within that domain with the ICM Professional subscription assigned |
| **User account** | Your user account added to the domain and workgroup |

## ICM Getting Started Guide

The full registration, domain setup, workgroup creation, and login walkthrough is documented in the ICM help:

[**ICM Getting Started →**](https://help.connected.illumina.com/icm/introduction/icm.md)

Key steps covered there include:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Domain Registration** — Register your ICM order, choose a region, and create or select a domain. You will receive a domain URL by email.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Workgroup Creation** — Create a workgroup for your team. Workgroup members share projects and data.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Adding Users** — Invite team members to your domain and workgroup from the Admin Console.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Subscription Assignment** — Assign the Connected Multiomics Professional subscription to each user who needs Correlation Engine access.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Log In** — Access ICM at [login.illumina.com](https://login.illumina.com/login), select your domain and workgroup, then launch the Connected Multiomics application tile.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Accessing Correlation Engine Within ICM

Once logged into ICM, Correlation Engine is available as an integrated interpretation step within the analysis pipeline. After completing a statistical analysis (e.g., differential expression with DESeq2 or LIMMA), results can be sent directly to Correlation Engine for biological interpretation.

For details on how data flows from ICM into Correlation Engine, see [Data Inputs](/correlation-engine/data-inputs/data-inputs.md).

## ICM Navigation Overview

Within ICM, the three main areas relevant to Correlation Engine workflows are:

| Area              | Purpose                                          |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Studies** | Organise raw data, run pipelines, manage samples |
| **Analyses** | View pipeline results and statistical outputs |
| **Sample Groups** | Define groups for differential analysis |

Statistical outputs from Analyses (e.g., differential expression tables) are the primary input to Correlation Engine. For more on ICM's structure, see [About Connected Multiomics](https://help.connected.illumina.com/icm/about/readme.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.bioinsight.illumina.com/correlation-engine/introduction/introduction.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
